Between August and November 2024 we’ve seen a few changes in the Torr Vale Tap thanks to the help of the Vision Derbyshire Business Support Scheme and Derbyshire County Council. Together we have invested in the business in several items. The most obvious is the new floor in the Link Block area of the Tap. This has revived the space to make it feel warmer and more welcoming. It also means we can expand on the tables in there and make the space more versatile. It’s great for hosting parties, functions, conferences and meetings and is also licensed for weddings of up to 50 people!
In addition to this, we have invested in the kitchen and cellar. Our two new chefs can cater for all with new menus and scrumptious offerings which compliment the delicious beer offering from our local brewery, Torrside and those slightly further afield such as Thornbridge and Mobberly.
Our customer service has also significantly improved! With the introduction of a new point of sale system which links directly to the kitchen, our team can stay behind the bar serving customers. Thus the food can be made and delivered at a much quicker pace. You (the customer) said, we listened and we acted!
Our lovely personalised parasols were also bought to keep our guests cooler on those hot days and sheltered from the rain on the wet ones. We can also be identified easily from the Millennium Walkway and the top of the town too. Now you don’t have to visit the Torrs and wonder where the Tap is to get a fresh coffee or refreshing beverage.
Finally sustainability is something close to our hearts and to our town, New Mills. The mill started production in the 1880s and has always looked at ways of reusing items and being sustainable. We continue this through our specialised underfloor heating system using the River Goyt’s water power, recycling our waste and now the introduction of efficient hand dryers in the Tap restrooms. We have further reduced our carbon footprint as we have been able to remove the paper towels.
